I look after everything to do with promotional and event crew staffing at TRO. I’ve now worked with TRO for 13 years! Our crews are the heart of every event – they’re the ones out there talking to consumers, bringing the brand to life, and creating the moments people remember. Without them, nothing happens. So, my job is making sure we’ve got the best possible team on the ground, every time.
It probably sounds cliché, but my biggest passion is my family. I’m a first-time mum to my little girl, Evelyn, and most of my spare time is spent doing the classic toddler routine – parks, soft play, snacks, repeat. I think becoming a mum has helped shape me to be more empathetic and understanding, which definitely helps in a people-first role and ultimately that’s what it all comes down to – knowing and supporting your people.
Honestly, Jeremy Clarkson. I love dry humour and for anyone that hasn’t seen it – Clarkson’s Farm is a must watch.
I love festival season – it brings out the best of the promo world. You get to see some brilliant stands come to life. This year I have been recruiting for Pepsi and Liquid I.V. The whole vibe has been fun to profile, the staff have been awesome, and it’s been one of those projects where everything feels enjoyable to oversee.
When it comes to festival recruitment it’s all about finding people who’ll thrive in that environment. Festival work isn’t for everyone, so I look for people who are happy getting stuck in, can handle a bit of unpredictability (and let’s face it – wet weather!) and will keep the same energy up at 10pm as they did when they first started.
Definitely anything FMCG. They’re the bread and butter of the promo staffing world and always brilliant clients to staff. There’s a constant stream of campaigns, so it’s a fast-paced sector with plenty of opportunities.
My favourite recruitment pieces have always been long term roadshows. The sort of campaigns where you have the opportunity to build a core team from the very start, build strong relationships and support your teams throughout. It’s those long-term projects where you can really see the impact that a dedicated core team can bring.
My biggest piece of advice would be to just say yes to opportunities, be reliable and always bring a positive attitude. People will always remember how you made them feel just as much as the job you delivered, so being easy to work with goes a long way.
Everyone has to start somewhere so don’t worry if you don’t have loads of experience to begin with, skills can be taught. Every campaign and client is a chance to learn something new, meet and work with great people and continue to build your network and reputation.
But most importantly, just enjoy it. Experiential is fast paced and varied. If you bring enthusiasm and genuinely enjoy engaging with people, you’ll thrive in this great industry.
